2011.5.29 - Garden work

These clematis were purple last year, what happened to them?
Found a few mushrooms on my lawn, looks edible. Who knows them?

My little shed is still standing upright.
Removed all the rocks from the pile, so chipmunks will no longer keep here as their refuge. Note in the center front of picture is the nesting material for the chipmunks. As you can see, this place was a backyard pond. But I filled it up with soil, so I can plant some wild flower and wild edible/medicinal plant. I have a cluster of beautiful wild chives now, want some wild onion but couldn't find any nearby. BTW, anyone hike the BT near Decew falls you may pick up some wild garlic for me. :)
Lovely wood wood-sorrel. Although they are annoying weeds on your lawn, it can make delightful salads or a vitamin rich lemony tea.

2011.5.20-23 - WAFA course in Cambridge

Cambridge is a beautiful city. We spent 4 days here for the WAFA course.
I love the river, the smell, the view, the breeze, the touch...

The water in Grand River is high.
Geese and the ducklings, at a moment I wish I was one of them.
There were many interesting simulations and bloody scenes, but I only took this one. We were learning how to deal with potential spine injuries.

Ferguson Cottage of Galt Horticultural Society, Cambridge.
We learned a lot from the WAFA course, and a lot more yet to study. It's a on going continuous process but I hope I don't have to apply the knowledge on my trip.

2011.5.19 - Staking out

I left work early in the morning. The fog wasn't lifted yet.
Hammering down stakes on the side of highway involves a lot walking which is exactly what I like except for the traffic noise and smell of burning tire. Not prepared for today, I should have brought my gaiter and Goretex oversock for the wetness in the field.
Grindstone creek runs through culvert underneath Hwy 403.
Look what I found! I guess it's the cup for MTB winner? If you want it, ask me and I'll tell you where you can find it.
Who can tell me what is this?
Grindstone creek. If you've been to Royal Botanical Gardens, you will remember the color of the water. This muddy water comes mostly from the eroded bank on this creek.

2011.5.18 - Moneywort

Known as Creeping Jenny, this was moved from a trail to my front lawn last year and still lives well. If you want to know more about this lovely creeping plant, visit: http://www.botanical.com/botanical/mgmh/m/moneyw42.html

The trail starts at the parking low near the train track. This track is used very frequently, we could hear the train goes by about every half hour.
